"I want to see your guts"

Angel Guts: Nami is the third installment in the Angel Guts series. It is a Roman Porno/pink film (Japanese soft porn/sexploitation). It stars Eri Kanuma as Nami, a reporter for "The Woman" magazine. She's been working on an article about rape victims. She stalks these women and literally chases one down until she finally gives in and talks to her. the way she treats these women is almost a rape. A mysterious man, Tetsuro Muraki (Takeo Chii from Lady Snowblood) watches Nami and warns her that she's going too far and that all of her readers may not be female. He warns her that she may end up raped herself. She doesn't listen to him and continues to obsess over these women. The rape stories soon become fantasies of her own and she becomes aroused by them. Tetsuro becomes a friend to her and tries to nurture her through this.

Let me start off by saying, I love movies from the 60's/70's so I may be a bit biased on this review. At first, I didn't know what to think because the rape scenes are pretty gritty in the beginning. Unlike our soft porn, this film has a very rough feel to it. The sex looks like sex. It's not all about the soft focus and slow mo hair tossing. It has a nasty, dare I say...squelchy feel. While this makes the rape scenes harder to watch, it's at least honest. I especially liked how it started out hard and real but then switched gears and went into stylized and surreal for the last bit of the film. One scene in particular involving a nurse had a real horror show feel to it. That one was hard to watch.

Angel Guts: Nami also has good acting, directing and score. The score was not over the top and had one very nice song that I'd like to track down. The one downside is in the sound effects. There's one scene where the sound effects are very dated and goofy (kicking, slapping) that made it lose some of it's shock value. I laughed. I don't think I was suppose to.

Overall would I recommend this movie? Yes, I think. I don't know who I'd recommend Angel Guts to. I'm definitely interested in seeing the rest of the series and I think you can watch them out of order. Maybe I just need to start collecting exploitation films from the 60's/70's...

Things I learned from Angel Guts: Nami
Hmmm...I really didn't learn anything from this movie...so....

Things I never thought I'd see:
1) Someone trying to paper cut themselves to death
2) A man wearing a strap on
3) Vagina light explosion! (this may be because the pink films can't show genitals. I'll have to see if this is the norm. It was sure interesting)

Scenes I loved from Angel Guts: Nami:
~Nami and Tetsuro and eating together and talking. It's very cute and natural and they have good chemistry. Nami gets a little bit flirty here.
~One of the rape victims attacks Nami in her office. The woman is pretty intense.
~Tetsuro is ripping up the nude posters in his office. One of the posters they show the longest is a Norma Jean pin up. =) I freaked a bit.
~I love, love, love the scene where Tetsuro is washing Nami's scratches. Very nice
~Nami's shower scene....so shoot me, I like this scene.
