"Pure lust is the desire to eat the flesh of the one you love"

A plastic surgeon (Dr. Yuji Kotorida) becomes obsessed with having women over for dinner... literally. His obsession begins small, starting from little things he can find at the clinic. He soon invites women over to chop them up, leaving their head as a centerpiece.

Everything about this movie screams that it's horrible. The DVD itself isn't very appealing: the cover is cheesy, the menu is terrible, and the trailer is hilariously bad. When I put in the DVD and watched the trailer I got worried. I thought I'd have to fight my way through the next hour and 30 minutes. I started the movie up and prepared for the worst. What I got was a nice little surprise: I loved it! It wasn't what I expected. I was thinking along the lines of a terrible cannibal version of May (and I love May), and it wasn't quite like that. Once I realized what it wasn't, I began to really enjoy it.

Don't get me wrong, it's not the best movie. I would not recommend it to just anyone. The entire movie has that Japanese weirdness to it; where even if something completely weird happens, it's almost expected. To tell you the truth, I understood the plastic surgeon's philosophy about eating women; it made... sense. Somehow people eating other people REALLY didn't seem all that odd. The food the plastic surgeon prepares can go from looking extremely gross to very tasty. It is strangely pro-cannibalism in many ways.

The main things I love about The Last Supper are the gore and comedic elements. When the movie was gross, it was GROSS. There was some cheesy over the top gore, and some pretty damn realistic gore. I loved it when he was pulling one of the girl's guts out. I was tempted to take a screenshot, but thought it'd be better for you to see it yourself. Not to mention, super props for not going the CG route.

My main gripe after watching it was the last 30 seconds. It was completely tacked on, like they wanted to add one last shock. Right before that, it was brilliant! Why oh why did they have to throw in that last little "surprise". I would have been happier if the movie was just 30 seconds shorter.... <spoiler>

Being what it is, I was very impressed. The directing was pretty good, and the cinematography was very well done. There was barely any score, which I liked. The entire movie had a certain mood to it, very calming. The pacing was a bit... off sometimes. I thought it ended about three times before it actually did. Also, once he tells his back-story as to why he eats women, it gets confusing as to when some of the events took place. It didn't help that most of the women he killed looked alike.

The actors were pretty good. I loved Masaya Kato (Dr. Yuji Kotorida), he was very convincing in his role. None of the other actors stood out in a good or bad way. I thought Zuki Lee, who played Christy (the girl he meets in China) was really cute and sexy. I also liked the crazy girl that obsesses over the doctor; I thought she was adorable.

I wouldn't suggest it to many people, but anybody weird like me will probably like it. It was oddly paced, and the last 30 seconds annoyed me, but other than that I loved it. Why the doctor became a cannibal made perfect sense to me, which was odd. Don't watch if you have a weak stomach. If you're feeling up to it, watch this movie while eating sweet and sour chicken--I bet that would be pleasant.

Acting:
Pretty good--a lot better than I expected.

Directing:
Same as acting.

Score:
If you can have practically no score and pull it off, then I'm all for it. I love it when movies do that.

Action:
Couple of attack sequences. Got a girl brutally stab someone with a scalpel.

Gore:
I loved all the gore! The Last Supper wasn't all about gore, but when it was, it was an over the top bloody mess! We have several beheadings, blood spewing on walls, birds, and people's faces. We even get to watch him rip out someone's insides. Gotta love it.

Scares:
None really, but it's pretty damn gross.

Boobage:
We get a couple of boob shots--none very pleasant unless you like the boobs of a headless corpse.

Tasty women meat:
Made me want to try ;)
