"One size kills all..."

This sounds odd, but I have always had a thing for horrors involving cursed clothing. Maybe it comes from watching one too many b-movies. I've seen a lot. This movie is definitely one of the better ones.

Sun-jae (Hye-su Kim) separates from her cheating husband and takes her daughter, Tae-su (Yeon-ah Park) with her. Sun-jae is a big time shoe collector and finds a pair of red (pink) shoes at the subway station. She takes the shoes home and all hell breaks loose. Apparently these shoes bring out the worst in every woman they come in contact with. Resulting in some nasty mother/daughter fights. Trust me, the fighting over the shoes is not pretty. There is a back story/ghost story that is revealed in pieces through out the movie as different peeps try on the shoes.

Was this a good horror movie? I feel it was in some places. It definitely has the gore element and buckets of blood. Buckets and buckets of blood. It rains, and snows blood so if blood is your thing... there you go. WAs this movie a good drama? It has a nice drama in the mother/daughter/new boyfriend/cheating husband stuff. I think if you like horror and you don't mind drama, you will like The Red Shoes. There's not enough drama for drama fans that don't like horror.

The acting in Red Shoes really made the movie for me. Hye-su Kim does a great job playing the woman, Sun-jae. You feel for her and her daughter. Yeon-ah Park was adorable and creepy at the same time. Kudos to her.

Overall I liked The Red Shoes. There is definitely a style over substance feel to it and I'm a sucker for style. Substance has always been just an option for me =P. I will say if you're a horror fan, see this movie. At least for the first few minutes. The beginning of this movie is a killer. On the downside, this movie suffered some pacing issues. It was good in the beginning, but started to unravel a bit towards the end. Or, at least, I lost the energy I had towards the end. It picked up again just in time for the credits to roll. It may have been all the unnecessary "ghost girl" images. The freaky visuals and back story were interesting and nice to look at, but I think they could have done without the "long hair ghost girls" lurking and following Sun-jae.

Favorite Scenes:
~I love the flashbacks. Well... I didn't love that the ballerina wore pink pumps with her red dress. The only time pink should mix with red is Valentines Day.
~Sun-jae's nightmares.
~When Sun-jae and her new boyfriend are looking at the billboard with the ballerina on it and it starts snowing blood.
~The beginning sequence.

Things I learned from The Red Shoes:
1) Pink is the new red
2) One size fits (kills) all
3) You never take shoes you covet off a corpse; you cut them off
4) A shovel is an excellent tool for removing feet.
5) Little girls wearing heavy make up are creepy.
